New Weigh-In Rules — Coming in November

Please note a change to the weigh-in rules that are about to be introduced by the IWF from November.

Under the new rules, the weigh-in commences three (3) hours before the start of competition and lasts for one (1) hour.

As we follow IWF rules, Weightlifting ACT will be following this new weigh-in format at our competitions.

Please keep this in mind when planning your competition day.

CBR Sports Awards - Nominations

We're excited to announce that two of our youngest members, Spike Murray and Hannibal Frezza, have been nominated for the Rising Star award at the CBR Sports Awards!

Congratulations to both of them for all their hard work over the past 12 months — a fantastic achievement! Good luck with your nomination, boys!

Welcome to Our New Committee Members

We're excited to welcome two new appointed committee members on board!

Tessa Barbour (partner of Matt Reynolds) joins us with years of policy experience from Volleyball ACT, and will be helping out with our governance.

Vahri Fotheringham joins us with her IT and data experience, and will be helping out with our online presence.

Welcome to the team, Tessa and Vahri — we're looking forward to having you both on board!

WACT Citizenship Award — Nominations Now Open

Weightlifting ACT (WACT) is pleased to announce that voting is now open for our annual Citizenship Award.

All current members are invited to nominate a fellow member whom you believe has contributed the most to the Club over the past 12 months. This can be any current member, including lifters, parents, friends, coaches, Technical Officials, or lifetime members.

The criteria for nominations are as follows:

  • The nominee must be a current member of WACT.

  • They must have demonstrated devotion and commitment to WACT.

  • They must have shown a willingness to assist in WACT endeavors, such as competitions, events, official tasks, encouraging other members, and providing general support.

To submit your nomination, please reply to this email address with a short note, including examples, briefly outlining why you are nominating the individual.

Closing date: Friday, 20 November at 6:00pm

The award will be presented at our end-of-year event.

Sports Integrity Requirements

A reminder to all lifters: if you are competing, you must complete the following courses as required by the AWF:

  • Anti-Doping Fundamentals

  • Annual Update 2026

If you have already completed the fundamentals in a previous year, you only need to ensure you have completed the 2026 annual update.

Register and complete courses online at: https://elearning.sportintegrity.gov.au/

Please let us know if you have any questions.

WACT Perpetual Trophy Reminder

The Perpetual Trophy is WACT's highest annual honour, awarded to athletes with the highest total from their top four SMF scores in WACT-sanctioned competitions. To be eligible, athletes must compete in at least three competitions.

The trophy is awarded at our end of year celebration, with separate Men's and Women's trophies for both Masters and Overall categories. First, second and third place are awarded in each category.

A reminder to members that there are only two competitions left this year that will count towards this trophy — make sure you get your entries in if you're chasing a spot on the podium!

The end of year celebration is scheduled for lunchtime, Saturday 5 December, at The Howling Moon.

Hardship Policy Reminder

A reminder to all members that Weightlifting ACT has a hardship policy in place to support members who may be experiencing financial difficulty.

For more details, please refer to our Governance and Policies page on our website.
