The Weigh-In
Weigh in will start 2 hours before your scheduled session. You'll have an hour to make weight in a private, supportive environment.
Warm-Up
The warm-up room is full of energy. Focus on your rhythm and your team.
Arrive at your platform at least 30 minutes before your session starts. Find your platform. It's common to share with 1-2 others—it's a great way to meet fellow lifters!
Keep an eye on the Marshall's screen. If you're unsure, just ask a coach or nearby official.
If you are a novice or club lifter and don't have coach on the day, let us know and one of our WACT coaches will assist you.
Event Flow
We'll announce your name clearly. Take a deep breath you will normally have 60 seconds to start your lift or 2 minutes if you are following yourself. Once you have your lift overhead, hold on to the bar until you hear the buzzer then you can put it down.
Our Community Team
You aren't alone on that platform. These dedicated people are here to ensure your competition is safe and fair.
Technical Officials
The officials will help guide you with signals to ensure every lift counts.
Coaches
The friendly faces in the warm-up room. They'll keep you updated on the lift order so you don't need to worry about it.
Loaders
They work hard to keep the bar ready for you. They're part of your support crew today.

What is an entry total?
An entry total is the combined snatch, and clean and jerk you think you will be able to get on the day. For example if you think you can Snatch 40 kg, and Clean and Jerk 60 kg, then your entry total would be 100 kg. When you weigh in you will be asked to declare your opening attempts on both lifts, for example 30 kg Snatch, and 50 kg Clean and Jerk which will total 80 kg. That total cannot be more than 20 kg under your entry total, which in this case is spot on. If in doubt be conservative on your entry total as it is easier to go up in weight on the day than reduce it.
How do I choose my openers and other attempts?
Your opener should be a weight that puts you in range for your goal but you can comfortably lift any day of the week. It's about getting on the board and building confidence. For your second and third attempts, talk to your coach—they'll help you decide based on how your warm-ups and previous lifts felt.
What should I eat?
Eat what you normally eat. Stick to familiar foods that sit well in your stomach. You will need plenty of energy on the day so make sure you are well nourished but avoid trying anything new on competition day!
Should I cut weight?
No. Eat how you normally would and whatever weight class you fall in on the day is fine. This is about having fun trying out a new sport
What are the main rules?
Your coach will help you with the rules, however some to be aware of are: Don't drop the bar until the officials give the down signal. When putting the bar down lower it to below eye level before dropping it. Don't step on the bar with your foot at any time.
Weightlifting etiquette
- - The warm up room will be busy and you will need to share space but be respectful of other warms ups while they are doing them.
- - Cheer your friends when they come out but quieten down for the lift so they can focus.
- - No swearing or disrepectful behaviour toward officals, coaches or other lifters.
